Re: Hospices

Thank you Karen and Penny. Your answers are very reassuring. Having been actively involved in nursing both my parents and my brother, who all died of cancer, I know how important it is to try to make a decision early on where you would prefer to die, if possible. With the British in France, that dec...

Re: Hospices

These replies are interesting as it looks as if each area is different. I am in the south west. Do you know that if you choose to die at home in France that the system is able to cope and that one can die with dignity? When my father died at home in the UK in 1993, pre-Dr Shipman *, there was plenty...

Hospices

Is there a system for hospices in France? What sort of provision is there for palliative care if one does not want to die at home? Do you have to go into hospital?

Re: Can anyone tell me what the machines are doing?

Thanks Biggles and Golden Oldie. I'm not anxious to find out but more like curious about what is going on. After 5 sessions, I'm getting used to the routine of it all but am still pondering what happens. There are lots of short bursts - like one or two seconds of the red light going on - and it some...

Re: Time between surgery and radiotherapy

I agree, Biggles, it's good to share and swap experiences. When I had my cancer diagnosis, it was great that this Forum existed and I read many of the threads, even if they didn't apply to me.

Re: Breast going red

Thanks Biggles. The technicians said that the skin isn't expected to go so red (and it's got worse since I last posted) in the first week. I have been prescribed some cream (Ialuset), organised by the technicians, but the doctor said that it was not necessary to see me personally. I have a break fro...

Breast going red

After three sessions of radiotherapy, my breast is bright red - not quite a pillar box red but a Coxes Pippin (not sure of spelling) shade of motley red and pink. It's quite vivid. The machine operator is going to show this to a doctor tomorrow because she said that it was not usual for it to go red...

Can anyone tell me what the machines are doing?

I started daily sessions on radiotherapy this week - every day for 6 weeks. When in the room, I tried asking what the machines are doing but the staff don't want to tell me. Presumably when the red light is on, that is when the machine is operating. But what about the racheting noise when something ...

Re: Time between surgery and radiotherapy

I have this week started my radiotherapy. I had to have two operations to remove tumour from one of my breasts. The surgeon did not remove enough the first time around. So I waited about 6 weeks after the end of the second operation and between the radiotherapy. The period would have been 4 weeks af...

Re: Time between surgery and radiotherapy

Thank you both for you helpful replies. I shall post again when I know the answer. I am having my surgery soon and so I can be offline for a short time.
