Strong predictor of cancer

Postby KarenVM87 » Wed May 24, 2017 7:50 am

Yesterday University of Exeter announced that raised blood platelet levels are a "strong predictor " of cancer. A study of 40,000 patient records led by their medical school found that more than 11% of men and 6% of women over the age of 40 with thrombocytosis went on to be diagnosed with cancer within a year. This rose to 18% of men and 10% of women if a second raised platelet count was recorded within six months. Here is the link to the full written article http://www.exeter.ac.uk/news/featuredne ... 20_en.html

The study has revealed the first new indicator of cancer to have been robustly identified in 30 years.

is that something we should all raise with our doctors, given that the French are helpfully keen on taking blood tests, so it might not be a big deal for them to add this test?
