Patient led support at Health Unlocked

Postby pennycsf » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:07 pm

This website is professionally run by a medical team and provides the structure for the creation of patient led support groups. Although many of the groups target diseases other than cancer, the cancer groups currently covered are:

Ovarian
Pancreatic
Oesphogeal
Lung

Hi Penny...is this site English or is it in Europe and does this matter to people Over Here. ie. is input from ex-pats useful for them. Just wondered what their end game is...ie if a lot of people moaned about one thing could they try to do anything about it outside the UK?

Good idea though eh? :D

Good point, Goldenoldie. It is an English site run by a medical team and it is not affiliated to any pharmaceutical companies or anything else that might affect its credibility. It encourages people affected by any disease to set up their own support group - so it is forum based - which is then patient run but guided and moderated by the "team". As a result it has support groups across a wide range of ailments, mainly those that seem less well catered for elsewhere.

As you say, the information, which is supportive rather than medical, may well be helpful to people in France (being in English) although one needs to be aware that treatment is not always the same in the two countries so direct comparisons cannot be made.

Penny
